Try something new or revisit the
classics at this Libertytown eatery

When visiting a new restaurant, I typically like to try new things.
Expand my horizons, so to speak.
So when a friend and I arrived at TJ's Roadhouse on Liberty Road, a mile
west of Libertytown, I perused the menu and found a little something called
fried shrimp po boy.
Yes, what is po boy?
According to Wikipedia, it is a traditional submarine sandwich from Louisiana. It almost always consists of meat, usually roast, or seafood, usually fried.
Since I wanted to try something new and different, I went with the po boy. It was just so-so. Looking back, I think the crab cake served on a pretzel roll sounds amazing.
TJ's Roadhouse is a new establishment, open for about a month and a half. While I thought the name insinuated the restaurant serves primarily steak, ribs and other meaty dishes, TJ's had a wide selection of seafood. A true surf and turf restaurant.
Inside, the restaurant is divided into two dining sections with booths and tables in each. A bar is located along the back wall and plenty of TVs are located throughout the restaurant, making it a good spot to catch the game. The Ravens game, that is. There is plenty of Ravens paraphernalia throughout the bar.
Back to the lunch.
My friend went with the Caribbean jerk shrimp burger served with baby
shrimp, bacon, onions, lettuce and tomato with a side of homemade potato
chips and a fried pickle.
While it's a unique combination she'd never thought to put on a burger, she's glad TJ's did.
She told me the baby shrimp were perfectly cooked and added a unique taste and texture, while the jerk seasoning was absolutely delicious and just spicy enough.
We both started with a cup of the Maryland crab bisque. TJ's receives an A plus for the soup, which is $3.95 a cup.
Overall our meal was just over $26 plus a tip.
The service was great and prompt as well.
I might have to revisit for dinner. At 4:30 p.m., the prime rib is just calling my name.
The Dish reports on an unannounced dining experience and is not meant to be a critical review.
